THE JAPAN PAVILION
19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia
10 May – 23 November 2025
The Gallery

The gallery features a multi-channel video installation by Asako Fujikura and Takahiro Ohmura. The videos, shown in approximately 17-minute cycles, depict a dialogue between humans and the elements of the Japan Pavilion, about the pavilion’s future. This dialogue serves as the “prompt” for the entire exhibition. The “Object Video” displayed on the central monitor, mounted to an arm on a wall column, depicts a 3D visualization of the pavilion element that is currently speaking. The “Human Video” projected on the right screen shows a live-action video of five humans eating a meal. On the left screen, the “Construction Video” depicts a fictional landscape, continuously updated to reflect the substance of the dialogue. In the center of the space, the light reflected up from SUNAKI’s installation in the pilotis illuminates the ceiling, pointing to the presence of the Hole at the center of the script. In this way, the ma (in-between time/space)—where humans and objects exist fluidly as observing and recording devices—is retroactively discovered, or built, through dialogue.
